From the Movies

One a crowd of medical droids that nursed Darth Vader back to health following his injuries on Mustafar, the bluntly named Galactic Chopper droid used its mechanical arms to clean Vader's charred wounds. It is a tripodal droid with a cylindrical head capped with medical sensors.

From the Expanded Universe

Properly known as a Model DD-13, this no-frills medical droid earned the nickname "Galactic Chopper" from wry clone commanders who saw it in action during the Clone Wars. It was the source of much black humor: its name stems from its primary function of installing cybernetic implants, prosthetic limbs and synthetic organs. Also adding to its rough reputation is the fact it was manufactured by Ubrikkian, a corporation known for its heavy utility vehicles, not for precision medical technology.

The DD-13 was a prototype, distributed to military facilities for use aboard Ubrikkian medlifter transports. When the transports proved unworkable, the droids were instead transferred to medical suites across the battlefront. It two upper arms have modular sleeves, allowing it to be outfitted with a variety of tools.

Behind the Scenes

Animators frequently remark that the development of a three-legged walk cycle is very difficult, as it is entirely alien in nature. Nonetheless, the Star Wars prequel trilogy has featured a number of tripodal designs, including the Galactic Chopper droid.
