gorg![]()
![]() From the MoviesGorgs are amphibious creatures sold as food in the Mos Espa marketplace by gorgmongers, often for under ten wupiupi for a single large animal. Gragra was one particular vendor who had a tasty specimen snatched by a hungry Jar Jar Binks. When she accosted Jar Jar for the theft, the clueless Gungan dropped the frog from his mouth, causing it to land in Sebulba's soup bowl at a nearby café.Jabba the Hutt was a known connoisseur of gorgs, often keeping a snack bowl full of the frog-like creatures within arm's reach. The Huttese word for gorg is "chuba." From the Expanded UniverseMos Espa gorgs are typically cooked upon purchase, and can be flavored with roasted manak leaves or served a variety of dipping sauces. Gragra grew her gorgs and other edible amphibians in a sewer zone beneath Mos Espa, although she told clients that the creatures were nurtured in a basement culture pool.To be domesticated, a gorg pod must be "rooted" in amniotic-like fluid reminiscent of its primal root puddle. It can then be fed razor moss, funnel flowers, even bits of unrefined sewage. It soon lays eggs which hatch within a couple of days, producing tadpoles. A gorgmonger must separate the tadpoles from the adults immediately for adult gorgs will consume their young. Once the tadpoles have matured, they can be taken to market. Some species of gorgs are predominantly carnivorous, with pronounced teeth. They have been known to eat large quantities of glie and other similar substances when other food sources prove scarce. Behind the ScenesMost of the gorgs seen in Episode I were foam rubber props, save for the ones that needed to be handled by computer-generated characters -- Jar Jar, Sebulba and Jabba. These gorgs were digital. Keywords: Databank - Episode I, Databank - Episode VI Filed under: Vault, Creature
