A hawk-sized insect native to Maridun, these fluttering creatures were kept by the Lurmen colonists as loyal pets and messengers. Carrier butterflies are able to vocalize and repeat instructions, serving as a primitive yet effective means of communications over long distances. Their relative intelligence has yet to be defined in any source. In
The Clone Wars Season One episode, "Defenders of Peace," the Lurmen scout, Tub, uses a pet carrier butterfly to pass word of a Separatist invasion back to the Lurmen village. The previous episode, "Jedi Crash," also has carrier butterflies seen as part of the fauna on Maridun.
