Fans wanting to see Hader's Star Wars impressions on the big screen, can see him reenacting Jabba the Hutt's death scene in the hit comedy Knocked Up. He reunites with Rogen on screen in the upcoming comedy Superbad, which also has its share of Star Wars references.
"Seth and I play cops who talk a lot about Star Wars in the movie," Hader reveals. "Seth's a rookie cop and I've been on the force for two years so I keep referring to him as 'Padawan.' I talk in Yoda's voice and then say to another younger character in the patrol car with us, 'That's Yoda from Attack of the Clones.' We had this idea that it would be funny if my character and Seth's had only seen Attack of the Clones and not have any idea that there were five other movies."
Even with his busy TV and film schedule, Hader says he likes to spend time relaxing by watching the original trilogy, especially the unaltered versions that were recently released on DVD. "I have to admit I'm a purest," Hader says. "I am so glad the unedited, original trilogy was finally released on DVD. I love watching the Death Star blow up and you can kind of tell it's hanging from a string. But I prefer that because it's more nostalgic for me. As cool as the Special Editions are, I prefer the older ones. Plus it was awesome to see them letterboxed with the correct aspect ratio."
As he watches the films, he can't help but laugh at a few choice moments. "Whenever Luke whines, it's funny to me," Hader smiles. "Even as a kid I thought Luke whined way too much. And anytime Vader did a Force choke using his mind was funny. The way Captain Needa chokes is hilarious."
Hader even has a soft spot from the infamous "Star Wars Holiday Special," though he doubts he'll be spoofing it anytime soon on "SNL." "The 'Star Wars Holiday Special' is too funny to spoof," Hader explains. "It's so crazy I can't get through it in one sitting. It's like being in an alternative universe where Han Solo is talking about Life Day, Carrie Fisher is singing, and Bea Arthur's running the Cantina. But I do love watching it."
It's easy to understand how Star Wars has influenced Hader's love for films as well as inspiring him to pursue a career in entertainment. "A lot of my interests now in comedy and sci-fi and films in general came from Star Wars," Hader explains. "I enjoy old monster movies, which finds its way back to loving Star Wars. At a young age inherently knowing that the guys involved with Star Wars, are also involved with Indiana Jones, made me want to see what went on behind the scenes. And that's the reason why I eventually moved to Los Angeles and wanted to get into movies."
His love for Star Wars also helped him find romance along the way. "My wife is a hardcore Star Wars fan," Hader smiles. "When I first met her she had made window curtains from her vintage Star Wars bed sheets. And I think I said to her, 'I hope you don't think this is kind of weird, but I might start stalking you.'"
Be sure to check out Hader on "Saturday Night Live," and in the film Knocked Up in theaters now. Hader can also be seen in the films Superbad and Hotrod.
