"My vote goes to Han Solo," Gonzalo says. "He's very capable at making inferior materials and circumstances work in his favor. He also works well under pressure, and the man knows how to accessorize."
"I really think Yoda would be the best designer, mainly because he would be able to forecast fashion trends!" Baltazar laughs.
Eng adds, "I think the Queen's handmaidens would have made the best designers. Wasn't it interesting how they could use dress as a disguise to be handmaidens sometimes and the Queen in others?"
"I think Amidala could get 15 new looks out in a day," Franco says. "She is a runway show."
When discussing various characters in the saga (as well as their fashion sense), some of the designers admitted to identifying with some rather intriguing personalities. "I feel like Luke Skywalker a lot," Gonzalo says. "The biggest enemy is always the one within your own mind. You can only hope for success in your endeavors if you first conquer your own doubts, and move into life with courage."
"I love Han," Franco says. "He was so easygoing, and was a loyal friend to all. He found his inner hero and that is always is compelling. He's the coolest scoundrel around!"
"I identify most with Princess Leia for her ambition, dedication, grace and loyalty," Janx adds. "Plus people often called me Princess Leia because I used to wear my hair in that same style."
Baltazar adds, "I'm all about R2-D2, because he is a loyal friend. He might be small, but small is powerful!"
The designers were also quick to make some revealing Star Wars comparisons of each other as well. "Please keep in mind this refers to how everyone appeared on the show and not exactly as I think of them in real life," Gonzalo explains. "To start off, I think Santino is a lot like Han Solo for his anything-at-all-costs attitude and his kickin' accessories. Nick Verreos would have been a great Jedi Master for his design tutoring skills. Like Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, designers John Wade and Heidi Standridge were loved, but they left the story too early. And Zulema Griffin, alas, was most like Darth Vader as she succumbed to the dark side with her infamous walk-off between our models."Baltazar agrees, "Zulema could easily be Darth Vader mainly because she definitely has a BOLD approach."
While Gonzalo and Baltazar believe Zulema to be portrayed with the most Sith-like qualities after stealing away Verreos' model in an emotional episode, some of the other designers seem to believe that the black cape and helmet best fit fellow designer Santino Rice.
"Darth Vader is Santino of course, because he's tall, has that crazy voice, and fell into the dark side early for power," Franco says.
"Santino reminds me of so many different characters in the saga," Vosovic explains. "He's like Chewbacca because he's tall and hairy, and a little like C-3PO when he would imitate ["Project Runway" mentor] Tim Gunn as TimBot 3000. But he's also like Darth Vader for his darker side and his booming James Earl Jones-like voice."
While not all the designers could settle on who had the most obvious Sith-like qualities, it was fairly clear who would best portray the beloved droid counterparts. "Diana Eng is everyone's favorite and charming technological wizard -- just like R2-D2," Gonzalo says. "Diana Eng is most like Artoo because she's cute and smart!" Franco adds.
"Andrae is most like C-3PO for his physique, wide-eye expression and because he's so well-spoken," Vosovic concurs. "However, C-3PO simply doesn't have the dance ability that Andrae does."Gonzalo is the first to admit there's good reason for the C-3PO comparison. "C-3PO had a profound influence on me as child," Gonzalo says. "One of my close friends maintains that it is the protocol droid, and not my speech classes, that are responsible for the way I speak. Although I'd love to see him navigate a revolving door with the same aplomb!"
Whereas the droids are easily matched with their respective designers, Vosovic's personality and style could be compared easily with either one of the Skywalker siblings. "Luke? That is probably Danny Vosovic," Franco guesses. "He's a good-natured guy always trying to save Santino from the dark side." Gonzalo adds, "Daniel Vosovic reminds me of Princess Leia mostly for his ground-breaking hairstyle."
Chewbacca, however, seems to be a toss-up. "Nick is Chewie, because he is the friend you always wanted," Franco says. "Actually, I think designer Lupe Vidal is probably most like Chewbacca for her communication difficulties during the reunion show," Gonzalo says.
"I completely agree," Vosovic adds. "Lupe might as well have been speaking like a Wookiee since very few of us could understand what she was saying."
