Star Wars -- Shortened!
August 08, 2006

Aren't you a little short for a film saga? In celebration of Sky Movies airing of the Star Wars saga this summer, Sky has commissioned a comedic performance of all six films in just 20 minutes called Star Wars -- Shortened! Adam Long (co-founder of the Reduced Shakespeare Company) will write, direct and perform the mini-saga interpretation with the help of two other actors in a one-time-only live presentation that will be recorded for broadcast on Sky.

Every aspect of the epic story will be squeezed into the short production, from Anakin Skywalker's downfall to the dark side to the construction of the Death Star. No plot point from the epic, 13-hour cinematic saga will be omitted, which could prove to be quite the challenge for Long.

"This is my boyhood dream," Long smiles. "In the space of 20 minutes I'm going to be Jabba the Hutt, Jar Jar Binks, Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker. Everyone loves Star Wars and I'm getting paid to play it!"

Star Wars -- Shortened! will be performed exclusively at The Criterion Theatre for one night only on Aug. 17 in front of an audience of 600 invited guests. The complete production will also be shown on Sky Movies from the following week. For a chance to win tickets, visit the Sky Movies site here. In addition, single tickets (strictly limited total of 20 day-of-event tickets) will be made available to the first 20 fans at the door of The Criterion on Aug. 17.

"Star Wars is universally adored by movie fans and what better way to celebrate its phenomenal success than to create a one off, shortened performance packed with everyone's favorite scenes and lines?" Head of Sky Movies Sophie Turner-Laing says.

Sky Movies' Star Wars season starts on August 26 with Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and climaxing on September 30 with the UK television premiere of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
