The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones have arrived on DVD in a 12-disc boxed set (see the original announcement here). In addition to 11 discs of feature-length episodes and supplemental historical documentaries, the set comes with an interactive bonus disc. Here's a tour of that twelfth disc.

Historical Lecture: The Promise of Progress (0:41:27). Completing the educational component of this first volume of Young Indy adventures is a 40-minute lecture hosted by H.W. Brands, noted author and Professor of History at the University of Texas at Austin. While the various documentaries found on the other discs cover a multitude of subjects, this overview puts all the many topics into a larger context and perspective.

The 20th Century began with great changes as technology accelerated modern society, the world became better connected, and social reforms challenged the status quo. The future looked bright for those who believed that any challenge could be solved by the application of reason and intelligence. This led to progressive initiatives in politics, invention, physics, psychoanalysis, and art. For the young nation of the United States, progress proved double-edged, for while many innovations and ideas improved life, the allure of imperialism led the U.S. to a dark chapter. Produced by David Schneider. Written by H.W. Brands.

DVD-ROM Feature: Interactive Timeline. This feature allows for the exploration of the early 20th century through multiple means. By flipping through the pages of Young Indy's diary, you can see photos, sketches and notes written by Jones from throughout all his adventures. A timeline and map tracks major historical events around the globe, while an index provides previews of all the documentaries from all three volumes.

DVD-ROM Feature: Revolution Interactive Game. In this educational game based on Spring Break Adventure, you guide Young Indy and his cousin Frank through the southern U.S. along the Mexican border. Educational as well as entertaining, this game presents challenges, riddles and puzzles that are best answered by your knowledge of the historical facts and figures contained within.

DVD-ROM Minimum System Requirements: To view all of the interactive features you will need Microsoft Windows 2000 (SPI) with a Pentium 4 or compatible CPU, 1GB RAM, 150 MB available hard drive space, a video card with 64 MB RAM, 16-bit sound card and a DVD-ROM drive.
