Over the years, R2-D2 and C-3PO have taken part in many campaigns, both on and off the screen. Among those most near and dear to the two spunky droids are the public service campaigns where they've lent their likenesses to promote worthy issues. Longtime fans may remember television spots in the U.S. with a strong No Smoking message and poster campaigns in the U.S. and Australia to foster childhood immunizations. Now the droids are pleased to be taking part in a Canadian drive promoting awareness of organ transplantation and the importance of organ donations. In a poster commissioned by the London (Ontario) Health Sciences Centre in Canada for the
Canadian Association of Transplantation and the
Kidney Foundation of Canada, Threepio is shown in a new painting with a battle-battered Artoo, reciting a famous line from near the end of
Star Wars: A New Hope: "Sir, if any of my circuits or gears will help, I'd gladly donate them." Or, as the poster reads, "Be a hero in any galaxy. Consider organ and tissue donation."
