April 23, 2003

[ WonderCon ]This weekend, the Moscone Center in San Francisco will be the venue for WonderCon, a convention devoted to comics, television, film and popular media. Situated in the Bay Area -- Lucasfilm's base of operations -- this convention offers a number of guests and panels of interest to Star Wars fans.

Members of the Lucas Licensing team will be on hand to look at fan portfolios, offering advice and insights into what they look for in potential artists. Art Editor Iain Morris is scheduled to be there on Friday and Art Director Troy Alders on Saturday. Also, fans of digital visual effects will want to check this out: Paul Giacoppo and Glen McIntosh from Industrial Light & Magic will be hosting a special panel devoted to the forthcoming Hulk movie on Saturday, April 26 at 5:30 pm.

Many authors and artists will be in attendance, including those with previous Star Wars works. R.A. Salvatore, author of Vector Prime and the Attack of the Clones novelization will be there, as will Mark Cotta Vaz, who penned The Art of Attack of the Clones, From Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The Best of the Lucasfilm Archives and The Secrets of Shadows of the Empire. Each have panels devoted to their latest projects on April 25, with Vaz also tabling a panel on the Mythology of Pop Culture on April 26.

Mark Cotta Vaz and Star Wars illustrator Brandon McKinney will be signing autographs during the course of the convention.

The are several Star Wars-themed panels and events organized by local fan groups, the South Bay Star Wars Fan Club, the San Francisco Star Wars Fan Club, the Golden Gate Garrison, and the Rebel Legion. Expect to see stormtroopers in full armor ready for photo opportunities.

Be sure to double-check event times and locations at the convention as they are often subject to last minute changes. WonderCon runs on April 25, 26, and 27. For more information about WonderCon, see the official site here.
