Star Wars fans headed for
Celebration II May 3-5 have some really special appearances to look forward to -- three female Jedi from
Attack of the Clones, all in the same place, all at the same time.
Or rather, the women who brought these Jedi to life on the screen.
Meet Mary Oyaya who plays
Jedi Master Luminara Unduli, Nalini Krishan who portrays Luminara's Padawan learner
Barriss Offee, and
Amy Allen, the
Twi'lek Jedi
Aayla Secura. All three will be meeting fans and signing autographs in
the C2 Ventures area and appearing onstage for interviews, and for question and answer sessions.
Luminara Unduli, the character played by Oyaya, served the Jedi order in the final years of the Galactic Republic. She was a trusted advisor to the Jedi Council and the Republic government. When crises demanded service, she and her faithful Padawan, Offee, would rush into the thick of conflict, where their incredible lightsaber talents served them well.
Oyaya began her career as a model in 1996 posing for clients like Gucci and Sergio Rossi. She then decided to give acting a try. Her resumé includes commercial work for Hewlett Packard, and roles in Lost Souls, Farscape, and of course Attack of the Clones.
Krishan's character, Jedi apprentice Barriss Offee, joined her Master Unduli in numerous adventures on behalf of the Jedi Council. Master and Padawan were featured in the Del Rey novel by Alan Dean Foster, The Approaching Storm. The story takes place right before the events of Episode II, and tells the tale of a shared adventure between Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Offee, and Unduli.
Krishan was born in Fiji, and is of Indian and Nepalese descent. She started acting classes in college, and joined an acting agency a short time later. She has performed in roles in Indian feature films.
Allen plays Aayla Secura, the Twi'lek Jedi who will appear in a combat sequence in Attack of the Clones. Allen has worked at Industrial Light and Magic, and was recruited to play the part of the blue-skinned beauty, inspired by the cover of a Dark Horse comic book.
Jon Foster's striking cover art for issue # 33 of the ongoing Star Wars title from Dark Horse made an impression on writer/director George Lucas, who requested a physically fit female extra be found for the part. Allen fit the description, and was outfitted as the Jedi for the film.
