Not Bad for a Little Furball... The Ewoks may finally have their revenge when actor Warwick Davis comes to Star Wars Celebration II May 3, 4, and 5. Although Davis played Wicket W. Warrick, the most famous of the Ewoks in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, he first traveled to the galaxy far, far away purely by chance. In 1981 his Grandmother heard a radio commercial calling for short people to appear in what was then referred to as Revenge of the Jedi. Davis' Ewok character went on to become one of the most popular creatures in the Star Wars universe.
While filming Return of the Jedi, eleven-year-old Davis created a film of his own. His Return of the Ewok is one of the very first Star Wars fan films, and an affectionate, clever tribute to Star Wars movie making. You can see Return of the Ewok in the Star Wars in Pop Culture film room (205-207), which runs on a continuous track throughout Celebration II.
Davis also brought his Star Wars character to the small screen, reprising his role of Wicket in the television films The Ewok Adventure (1984) and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1985). The films were released theatrically internationally.
In 1988 Davis starred in the title role in Ron Howard's Willow. The fantasy adventure, based on a story by George Lucas, told of a novice sorcerer (Davis) who joined with a rogue swordsman (Val Kilmer) to protect a magical infant, and end the rule of an evil queen.
George Lucas invited Davis back to play four different roles in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. He was under the green mask as Wald, Anakin Skywalker's young Rodian friend. Portraying one of his other roles in the film, Davis sat next to Watto during the Boonta Eve Classic Podrace as the character Weazel.
Recently, Warwick played Professor Flitwick in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and the memorable Goblin Bank Teller. He is currently working on the sequel to that film. Other film credits include: Labyrinth, The Chronicles of Narnia, Zorro, Gulliver's Travels, A Very Unlucky Leprechaun, The White Pony, The 10th Kingdom, The New Adventures of Pinocchio, Al's Lads, and Snow White.
