Unbeknownst to most Westerners, an entire slew of Star Wars characters -- and the Maker himself -- participated in an expansive overseas ad campaign for electronics manufacturer Panasonic back in the late '80s. Magazine ads, shop and transit posters, and even TV commercials showcased several Star Wars characters -- and occasionally George Lucas -- in fine studio portraits which often had little to do with the electronics they were supposed to be advertising. C-3PO with a butterfly net? Ewoks holding leafy produce? Chewbacca with tulips? They may sound hokey, but the campaign is one of the most stunningly photographed -- if not rarely seen -- campaigns ever staged using Star Wars characters.
