In an age when most films are released globally at the same time or at least within a few weeks of each other, it's hard to fathom that Star Wars didn't make it across the Pacific until nearly 13 months after its release in the US. Opening in June, 1978 in Japan, many children didn't even see the film until two months later, when they were released from school for vacation.
