Add an original piece of
Star Wars art to your collection with the latest of Artist Sketch cards in the
Star Wars: 30th Anniversary Trading Card Set from Topps, in stores now.
As one of the artists involved in the exciting new series of Topps cards that celebrate the saga through the eyes of various illustrators and comic book artists, Star Wars artist Tom Hodges says creating artist cards for Topps allows him to show off his unique artistic style.
"It's a chance to throw my spin on the some of the most beloved characters ever created," Hodges says. "I have a different style from many of the artists involved so while you won't get a card that looks like Mark Hamill you'll still get a card that looks like Luke Skywalker. It's also great for the collector to not only have variety in the cards, but also to be able to give a fan a piece of original piece of art."
To give collectors and fans something a little different than the usual kind of sketch cards, Hodges decided to select a few cards to pay homage to his favorite artist -- Ralph McQuarrie. "On this set, very late in the game, I asked Topps if I could do some 'McQuarrie Concept' cards," Hodges reveals. "He let me, but on the condition that I only do a handful. So I did a Chewie, Luke, Vader, Stormtrooper, C-3PO and R2-D2. I really enjoyed doing those cards. I think because growing up, I would stare at Ralph's work all the time! He was a huge influence on me as an artist."
Here's a first look at the sketch cards from Hodges.
Look for Artist Sketch Cards from Cat Staggs, Matt Busch, Katie Cook, Allison Sohn, Len Bellinger, Dave Dorman, Adam Hughes, Mark Brooks, Juan Carlos Ramos, Grant Gould, Jessica Hickman, Phil Noto, Otis Frampton, Ingrid Hardy, Amy Pronovost, Brandon McKinney, Cynthia Cummens, Davidé Fabbri, Joe Corroney, Justin Chung, Kevin Graham, Marc Wolfe, Mike Lily, Rafael Kayanan, Robert Teranishi, Russell Walks, Sarah Wilkinson and Sean Pence.
