Intrepid
Star Wars fans are on a droid hunt that would impress even the most obsessed
Jawa. By now, everyone knows that the United States Postal Service has scattered a number of
R2-D2-styled mail collection boxes across the U.S. for a limited time in anticipation of
a series of commemorative Star Wars stamps to come this May in conjunction with the saga's 30th birthday.
Fans have scoured their neighborhoods, finding many of these boxes, including ones that were never listed in the USPS's original city list. They've been tracking their discoveries on this fan-made interactive map, as well as sending in photos to starwars.com. Here's some of what we've received so far, and more are coming in every day.
To send in your picture, use the Bantha Tracks submission form found here. Also, be sure to tell us the city and state where you found it.
Now, you can make your own version of the R2-D2 mailbox thanks to USPS and starwars.com with a printable papercraft version of the droid-themed mailbox. You can download it as a PDF here.
