Fans looking forward to 2007's Star Wars Weekends at Disney-MGM Studios now have four more reasons to make the trip to Florida this summer -- Disney has devised four new limited edition maquettes which stunningly portray Disney's iconic characters in classic Star Wars garb. Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy have been transformed into X-Wing Fighter Pilot Mickey, Princess Minnie, Stormtrooper Donald, and Darth Goofy.

"We wanted to create something special for our guests visiting during Star Wars Weekends to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of A New Hope," says Disney Arts & Collectibles Product Developer Aaron Babcock. "Last year, we debuted the Jedi Mickey Mouse piece, selling the 600 specially-stamped big figures in just a matter of hours. So this year we wanted to do the Disney characters as characters from the first film."

Fans who have actually seen the original Mickey Mouse Jedi figure are often first struck by its scale (it's BIG!) and then delighted by the clever merging of the two properties. The new series continues this tradition and will be offered in the same large scale, standing between 17" and 23" with the illuminated base. The full effect of the base lighting (and the tactical screen behind Princess Minnie) cannot be seen in the accompanying images, but really enhances the display when the room lights are turned down. The belt and chest panel on Darth Goofy are also illuminated.

As before, each character will be numbered from an edition size of just 600 each, complete with certificate of authenticity. The cost will be $175, and will be sold exclusively during the event. If any are left over after Star Wars Weekends, they will be made available through the Art of Disney galleries located throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. Collectors should keep in mind, however, that both Star Wars and Disney collectors are sure to be interested in these, so don't wait until the season's over!

A signing is currently planned at the Disney-MGM Studios during Star Wars Weekends, which will include character designers Costa Alavezos (X-wing Mickey, Princess Minnie, and Stormtrooper Donald) and Randy Noble (Darth Goofy).

Details on 2007's Star Wars Weekends will be posted at starwars.com in the coming months, and Disneygallery.com plans to begin advertising the four maquettes in March.
