[ Star Wars Pepsi Cans ]Pepsi-Cola Company, beverage partner for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, announced in May that it will debut 24 limited-edition can designs throughout the summer of 99. The collector set is up on shelves today, and Pepsi will continue to release new designs every two weeks from now through September. The cans feature characters and fun profiles. The first five cans released were Anakin Skywalker (Pepsi), Darth Maul (Mountain Dew), Queen Amidala (Diet Pepsi), Chancelor Valorum (Pepsi ONE), and Qui-Gon Jinn (Storm-in select markets). In addition to the 24 limited edition cans, Pepsi will distribute special Gold Yoda cans that invite customers to make the choice of either keeping the collector's item or mailing it in for a $20 Star Wars check and a replacement can. Gold Yoda cans will be randomly distributed in 12 and 24 packs across the country. In addition to in-store merchandising, Pepsi's Star Wars-Episode I partnership includes TV, radio, print advertising, and last but not least, Internet presence! Pepsi site, www.pepsiworld.com, recently opened a new Star Wars section that features information on promotions and also a fun, in-depth bio on "Marfalump," the new character in the Star Wars-Pepsi commercials.
