Featuring A New Original Score By Five-Time Academy Award® Winner John Williams

Sony Classical has reached an agreement with Lucasfilm Ltd. to release the original motion picture soundtrack of the new movie in the Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Star Wars: Episode I, written and directed by George Lucas, is scheduled to open throughout the U.S. and Canada on May 21. The recording features a new score by five-time Academy Award® winner John Williams, who is also the composer and conductor of the original Star Wars Trilogy, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

The London Symphony Orchestra, with John Williams conducting, will perform the original score. The L.S.O. is the same orchestra that recorded Williams' original Star Wars score 22 years ago.

"We are honored that Lucasfilm chose us to release such an important soundtrack," said Peter Gelb, President of Sony Classical. "John Williams' previous scores for the Star Wars movies are a permanent and delightful part of our culture. We anticipate an even greater impact for this historic release."

"Sony Classical has proven itself to be a powerful worldwide marketer of soundtrack records and has enjoyed an excellent relationship with John Williams," said Lucasfilm Vice President, Howard Roffman. "We are delighted to have Sony Classical bring the new Star Wars: Episode I Soundtrack to our fans."

The Star Wars: Episode I soundtrack continues Sony Classical's long association with John Williams, who exclusively records his non-film projects with the label. Williams won the third of his five Academy Awards for his score for the original Star Wars (1977) and received nominations for his scores for The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). The soundtrack albums for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back also won Grammy Awards® for Williams in 1977 and 1980, and he was a nominee for Return of the Jedi in 1983.

Information about the original motion picture soundtrack of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace will be featured on Sony Classical's Web site at www.sonyclassical.com, and www.starwars.com.
